Sandpiper Bay Hosting 10th Annual Golf Tournament

Sandpiper Bay Golf and Country Club  is hosting the 10th Annual Golf Tournament and Auction to support Pretty in Pink Foundation and Brunswick County residents diagnosed with breast cancer. The foundation serves women and men in North Carolina who are diagnosed with breast cancer and who have limited health insurance or, in many cases, no health insurance at all. Last year, the fundraising efforts totaled more than $20,000 and over the past nine years, the events have raised more than $185,000.

The first outing this year will take place Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Sandpiper Bay Golf and Country Club clubhouse from 6-9 p.m. Admission is free for anyone who wants to attend the Lula Roe fashion show and fundraiser. There will be more than 1,000 items showcased during the fashion show. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served and there will also be a cash bar.

If you spend $50 at the event, you’ll receive a free gift. Sandpiper Bay is also hosting a nine-hole golf outing Tuesday, Sept. 26, which includes a hole-in-one contest, nine-hole scramble, cocktail reception and auction. Mens, women and mixed teams are welcome to play. The cost per player is $40. There is also a golf outing Wednesday that is not open to the public. For more information about the event or to register a team for play Tuesday, Sept. 26, call Angela Nicholson at 575-6568.

About Pretty in Pink

In 2004, Dr. Lisa Tolnitch, a breast cancer surgeon in Raleigh, had a patient who was diagnosed with breast cancer but did not return for a follow-up appointment because she had no health insurance. Dr. Tolnitch realized something needed to be done, so she founded Pretty in Pink Foundation with the support of local medical professionals. What began with assisting ten women in Wake County has evolved into helping thousands of women and men throughout North Carolina.
